RoboDoc coming to DVD sometime in November, maybe?
October 28 2009
They've been threatening to release Robodoc
on DVD since 2007 but it looks like it might finally happen this time. Various reports set the release date as November 10th, but its now listed as November 24th on amazon.com and other outlets.
The DVD includes a behind the scenes "mockumentary" called Dissecting Robodoc, deleted scenes and an extended alternative ending. Screenwriter Dr. Doug Gordon has patched together some clips from the film (see below) into a viral video in an attempt to cash-in on the health care reform controversy. I sort of admire this Gordon guy... he's nothing if not tenacious about trying to get people to see his film.

The Orlando Sentinal was quick to criticize the clip:
Spacecoast radiologist and screenwriter Dr. Doug Gordon has apparently turned clips from the movie on their head, using them as anti-health care reform viral "commercials." Is that OK with the Screen Actor's Guild? Little birdies tell me "No," but I'm not sure. These may be passed off as viral ways of promoting the film.
The movie reviewer for The Orlando Sentinal is a guy called Roger Moore (no he's not the guy from James Bond films... he looks a little like Morgan Spurlock with thinning hair). Roger Moore HATES Robodoc and has made a hobby of writing articles detailing why he hates Robodoc when he's not gossiping about David Faustino and his ex-wife (classy move, Roger).
Enough already. No one is expecting a movie with National Lampoon in the title to be The English Patient. This cretin actually gave Two Lovers and Valkyrie 4 out of 5 stars and he didn't like Gran Torino... he's not to be taken seriously.
Besides Corin and Dave, this film's also got Alan Thicke (Growing Pains) and Michael Winslow (Police Academy, Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams) in the cast. Winslow is the brother who can do the amazing sound effects with just his mouth. So, at least from a casting perspective its certainly not bereft of comedic talent.
I'll post a Totally Biased Fan Review once I get a chance to finally see this thing. In the meantime, check out the Official RoboDoc website to view photos from the premiere - quite a few of David Faustino but only one of Corin :(
